International Art Residence and Exhibition Mahébourg, Mauritius
The arts festival, which will take place from 15 December 2022 to 15 January 2023, is a collaborative project between the National History Museum of Mauritius, Mahébourg and artist Manou Soobhany, who is also curator of the festival.

40 international artists
The artists, from South Korea, Poland, Lithuania, Italy, Germany, Spain, Japan, Usa, France, England, Iceland, Seychelles, Slovenia, Belgium, Schotland, Russia and Mauritius will bring a breath of fresh air to the community. They will make their works in situ, in sheds and all sorts of spaces around the village, seeking inspiration in the local community and the museum itself.
The history and culture of Mahébourg and its surrounding district may receive an entirely new interpretation at the hands of the visiting artists. An opening festival will be held on the 13 - 14 January 2023, and open studios, art workshops and lectures will also form part of the program, offering visitors and artists opportunities to connect. The aim is to achieve broad collaboration
by reaching out to local bodies such as schools, preschools and societies in the village. The exhibitions will remain open all summer.
The aim of the festival is to promote artistic creation in the area, to form connections with other cultures, and to elicit the perspective of others on this seaside community.

The residence concludes in an art exhibition and performances in the facilities of the Historic Museum, in and around the houses.
Workshops for the community
During the stay the artists are asked to give workshops to local people in Mahébourg or to give introduction of themselves.
This will take place in the office spaces of the Pt Jerome Community Space.
New Perspectives
The Historic Museum will open their doors, and tell the artists about Mahébourg the old capital and Mauritius history.
The organizers are very excited to introduce local treasures to the foreign artists, and start communication and gain new perspectives on our history.
